WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR THE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING OF YOUR PEOPLE?

Taking the time to reflect on the values and principles of your company is an important part of building a strong company culture. It should be a significant part of what your Leadership Training and Skills Development vision and plan is all about. Your ability to inspire all those in your care to embrace the direction, improving their management skills and establishing the necessary culture to succeed, should be what differentiates you as a leader.

I hope you consider it a privilege to be part of their development. Countless employee surveys reveal that training and communications consistently are areas needing greater clarity. It has always been my goal to create the Best, the Brightest, Most Informed and Best Educated Management team in the Industry.

You must have your vision.

We are all in the service business, so naturally people are our most important asset. Embracing this belief begins the process of training and educating of our team. The time we spend with them is an investment in our future, not an expense. The time you spend with your people is a critical investment. You cannot successfully grow your business without an investment in your people.

It starts with building a performance culture. We will accomplish two things along the way: First, we will open the doorway to further career success for those in our care. Second, this
investment will result in successful business results for your company.

We must view our business through the eyes of a leader. (By the way, that is you.)

The time is now. Evolving into a performance-driven organization connected by the principles of Balanced Leadership, where each of us should:

• Think like a customer by approaching each challenge as a true solutions provider.
• Feel like a valuable employee by knowing your work matters, and you are part of the solution not part of the problem, and we will never compromise on safety.
• Act like an owner by understanding the business and your role in what leads to success.

We need to embrace this Balanced Leadership philosophy along with the goals and objectives you have established for your people and area of responsibility. This will start shaping the
culture. This training is the starting point of communicating your messages down to every level, and by doing so, mobilizing your people and your resources to be in the game with you. It’s
about inspiring a deep-rooted commitment among all your people.

Your success will be measured by the degree to which you can get everyone in your organization at every level to:

• understand
• embrace
• emulate
• and execute your vision and strategy.

In my view, leadership is about building a bridge to our future. Together, we give our people the opportunity to help us build that bridge by communicating and educating each one of them on
our vision and strategy.

As the leaders of an organization, you must set the standards for what “Good Looks Like” and replicate it in everything you do through your dedicated people.

There are many different types of businesses and each with their complexities. But all will succeed in differentiating themselves through service, technology, and operational excellence because of their people.

To be an Employer of Choice you will need to successfully attract and retain talent because people want to work with you and your organization. They want to work for you because they feel like a valued member of the team. They want to stay because you run a consistent and safe business and reward them for their performance, dedication, and commitment.

You inspire them to want to be the best, brightest, most informed, and best educated in the industry.

What does it mean to be the best and brightest? Being the best is what we all aspire to be personally. This inspiration should also be for the people you manage, for the customers you serve and for your company’s brand reputation.

Being the brightest is something that you bring to the table. As leaders, you need to ensure your people receive important company information in a timely manner that they can understand – that builds trust and builds an effective, two-way flow of information.

From the point of view of the customer, you need to be the most informed and best educated in the industry if you want your customers to view you as a trusted advisor and not just an approved vendor. It means truly knowing the customer and being fully engaged with delivering the world-class service they are promised.

It’s about seeing new possibilities and new opportunities. It’s about guiding your people rather than commanding your people. It’s about harnessing the creativity of the people that work with you. It’s about getting the best your people have to offer.

As a leader, you must be both a teacher and a student. You must create an environment where top performance is a core value and where accountability rules. You must be clear about where your company is going and how the journey to your destination will play out.

You can’t do this alone.

To be successful you must know your priorities. You must understand how to focus on the few critical issues that most impact your success. It is about the relationship between service excellence, your culture, and your business development efforts.

Culture. Whether it’s a family, a company or a nation, culture drives what we believe, what we do and how we do it. It’s the invisible hand that guides us. Creating a culture where pride of performance thrives at every level in every job is a priority.

The best practices of top performing companies are no secret. The foundation of those companies is a performance-based culture where opportunity abounds – where standards of performance are clear. Where continuous learning is prized and where mutual respect is a condition of employment.

In a word, you cannot realize your goals without a culture that drives you to new heights. You will be responsible for creating a rewarding performance culture where employees believe this is the best place they’ve ever worked.

Service Excellence. No matter how well we define the right path to our future, results are all about execution. Results reflect flawless business processes and exceptional project management. Results come when everyone takes responsibility for both understanding the business processes they touch and understanding the metrics you use to ensure service and operational excellence in everything you do. Operational Excellence begins and ends with ownership! You are the architects of your own destinies!

The ability to consistently exceed customer expectations rests on your ability to build and sustain flawless business processes that meet and exceed your customers’ expectations.

As leaders, we must always be constructively dissatisfied – continuously improving your business processes, improving your own skills, and developing your people are business priorities. Leadership and accountability are critical. That’s the purpose of this Leadership training.

That means you may need to get out of your comfort zone. Push limits. Focus on what can happen; not on what can’t.

My hope is that your vision for skills development and the training of your people will leave you with a renewed sense of purpose and excitement about your future, the organization’s future, and the future of all those in your care

Let’s work together. I am a practitioner as well as an educator and motivator, and an experienced senior leader and CEO with over 45 years of boots-on-the-ground experience. I led one of the largest rebranding initiatives in franchising history – The UPS Store, revolutionizing the $9 billion retail shipping and business services market.

I believe that none of us can achieve success without some help along the way. For each of us, there is a person, a mentor, who we are grateful towards and who can help us get to where we aspire to be. Sharing stories and experiences as a speaker is a way of recognizing the value of these experiences and giving back to the next generation of leaders. It also is a way of demonstrating in words and deed the value I am placing in mentorship. As for me, I have been fortunate to have worked with and mentored by some incredibly special people, and none more incredible than Coach John Wooden.

“Rocky was the Keynote Speaker at our FragilePak Connect Conference. His presentation on Balanced Leadership was educational, informative, and delivered with great energy and enthusiasm. We especially appreciated Rocky attending the conference to learn more about who we are, what we stand for and what we are trying to accomplish as a team. He received a 4.9 score on our survey and the following comments best represent the overall comments.”

“He was the best speaker and had useful life tips”

“Fantastic”

“Amazing”
