Small Business Saturday is always celebrated on the Saturday after Thanksgiving and Small Business Saturday this year took place in our town and places around the country this past Saturday, November 24.

Unlike Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which focus on larger retailers and eCommerc on line stores, Small Business Saturday encourages consumers to shop at predominantly small and local retailers and to use small, local service such as restaurants and other independent local businesses. Once again, this year, I chose to spend time at Bruno’s One Sweet Ride a local bicycle shop and homemade candy store located on Main Street in Allentown, New Jersey. We had a book signing, and as a local author I enjoy meeting and speaking with the many wonderful people in our town. I also sponsored a drawing for 50 dollars off on a TREK’S bike.

Heather Bruno, the owner of the Candy Store portion of the business, made baskets of chocolate that included my book, Tighten The Lug Nuts, and we called it, ONE SWEET READ!  Please consider supporting Heather with your Holiday Gifts for family, friends and business colleagues and visit her at www.brunosbicycles.com or email her directly at [email protected] or call her at 609-208-0544.

By encouraging and supporting the  ‘Shop Small’, Small Business Saturday and throughout the Holiday Season and year, we help bring more holiday shopping and business to small businesses.

The campaign was launched in 2010 by American Express, a time when many small businesses in the United States were struggling as a result of the recession.
